In 1978, David Bowie disappeared to Formentera for nine days. Locals saw him whispering to tide pools and sketching seahorses with strange musical notes.

He later claimed the seahorses taught him how to “compose dreams backwards.” No one believed him—until a marine biologist found that an unreleased Bowie track matched the pulse of a newborn seahorse.

Asked about it years later, Bowie said, “The ocean is weirder than space.” Then he winked.
